Jin Eui Kim
Jin Eui Kim is an internationally renowned ceramic artist. Originally from South Korea, he now lives with his family in Cardiff, UK.
Whilst at Cardiff School of Art & Design Jin Eui studied the illusory effects of the application of tonal bands to three-dimensional surfaces. He graduated with a MA and PhD in Ceramics. He was then accepted into Graduate Residence at Fireworks Clay Studios, Cardiff and remains a full-time member. He is also a member of Contemporary Applied Art (CAA) and the Craft Potters Association (CPA).
Industry and artistic recognition led Jin Eui to be selected for the AWARD exhibition in the British Ceramics Biennial in 2013 and the HOT ROOKIES special exhibition for the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea. He has recently been awarded several prizes including the Emmanuel Cooper Prize at Ceramic Art London 2018, Best Maker in Wales at Made by Hand fair, winner of the China & Glass category at the Homes & Gardens Designer Awards, and was selected for the Best Ceramics at Contemporary Craft Festival, the second Best Demonstrations at Art in Action and the Valentine Clays Peers Award at Art in Clay. He was recently awarded funding from the Art Council of Wales for developing his work.
Manchester Art Gallery, The National Museum (Wales), the National Museum of Scotland and Shipley Art Gallery have purchased Jin Eui’s works.
Jin Eui’s passion is to explore tonal effects and spatial illusions by using gradient in tone, width of bands and interval between bands, resulting in works that are both visually and intellectually challenging.
