Jude Hart was born in Ashton Under Lyne in 1973.

She studied at Berkshire College of Art and Design from 1992-93 and at Goldsmith’s College (BA) from 1993- 1996. She continues to live and paint in Brighton. “The paintings are stimulated by a desire to explore how to capture a sense of movement and expressiveness within the confines of a determined structure such as a grid or curved shape.” Each piece is made on a specially prepared paper using several washes of ground. She then builds up fine layers of oil by literally rubbing the paint into the surface using her own hands. “For me it is important to use an intuitive, hands on process which opens the paintings up to a freer more expressive quality which contradicts the more rigid structure of the grid.”
